There is scarcely justification for introductory remarks with any volume, and a work of this nature admits of few. The work is its own introduction; it is a Prose Poem, and must be interpreted as such. The subject involved, is one to which the author has given attention fr 1m early youth, and, whatever the Critics may or may not say of the book, the production of it has relieved the Author from the pain and travail attending the many years when the aspiration was ripening into accomplishment.

I am indebted to certain friends for reading the work in ms, but I de..ne to avoid personal mention of any.
