Situated as it is on the border land between the north and south, the University of Missouri, although originally a typical Southern college, embodies both the Southern ideals of chivalry and hospi tality and the progressive spirit of the North.

The University grounds at Columbia cover over seven hundred acres. The main divisions are ln the quadrangle, the horticultural grounds, the physical education grounds, and the agricultural col lege farm. The quadrangle is the center of university life. On it are situated the mounds and the columns, which are always dear to the hearts of Missouri students and alumni.

Fraternities have existed 'at Missouri since 1869. The follow ing are now represented here: Phi Delta Theta, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Sigma Nu, Beta Theta Pi, Kappa Alpha, Sigma Chi, Kappa Sigma, Phi Gamma Delta, Delta Tau Delta, 'alpha Tau Omega, Acacia Phi Kappa Psi, Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Pi Beta Phi, Kappa Alpha Theta, Delta Gamma, Alpha Phi, Phi Mu, and Chi Omega.
