If the views expressed in this paper be true, it follows that some sweeping changes will be necessary in our present interpretation of physical signs. Therefore, the facts here advanced should be carefully weighed before being accepted. Facts, however, as Opposed to theory, will always be accepted in the end, and in this paper I have endeavored to show not only that fine rales can not be produced within the lungs, but that they are in fact produced within the pleura.
