Excerpt: ... CAKE BLANC MANGE OVER CAKE Take any stale cake, cookies, hermits or doughnuts, crumb or slice. Make a blanc mange reserving whites. Pour over cake crumbs and use whites for frosting. CHOCOLATE BLANC MANGE Mix 1 tablespoon corn starch, 1 tablespoon grated chocolate, 3 tablespoons sugar, 1 small teacup milk of water. Moisten corn starch and boil together with chocolate, then add sugar. Pour over stale cake.--Agnes Luzader, Owaneco Rebekah Lodge. GINGER BREAD BLANC MANGE Make an ordinary corn starch blanc mange and pour over stale ginger bread sliced. Very good.--Mrs. Geo. Unger, Rochelle, 111. CHERRY CAKE Cream together 1 cup butter and 3 well-beaten eggs, 3 tablespoons of cream, 1% cups of flour, 1 teaspoon of soda added to the flour, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg, 1 cup of cherries, juice and all. Bake in loaf. Any fruit may be used in this manner.--Winona Rebekah Lodge, No. 38. JAM CAKE Use left-over jam or jelly. Cream together 1 cup sugar, % cup butter or lard. 1 egg yolk, 1 teaspoon soda in 2 tablespoons of hot water, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, V,t teaspoon cloves, % teaspoon nutmeg. Stir in 1 cup of any left-over jam, add 2% cups flour; lastly, add beaten white.--Ethel Wintemond, Winona Rebekah, No. 38, Newton, 111. MINCED MEAT COOKIES The original recipe calls for a can of minced meat for this recipe but it can be made equally well with chopped and ground cold boiled beef to which cold apple sauce or any canned fruit has been added. Moisten with any left-over canned fruit juice, grape juice or jelly, thinned with hot wate. Add 1 cup flour to 2 of mince meat, 1% teaspoons of baking powder.
