This text takes a balanced approach to social problems as it moves from macro to micro problems. A strong cross-cultural emphasis throughout the book is bolstered by special "Focus On" sections, which highlight particular social problems in other countries. At the end of each chapter, "Connections" sections link the particular social problem discussed in that chapter with other social problems, to explicitly demonstrate that social problems don't occur in isolation.
