CORBA Distributed Objects is a practical guide to the CORBA standard, the leading standard for writing distributed systems and integrating software components. Orbix is used throughout to demonstrate the ease of use and power of CORBA. Drawn from personal experience of implementing and using the standard, this book demonstrates the way in which CORBA can be used to write the components of a distributed software system. Its pragmatic, hands-on approach will make it an invaluable reference for experienced programmers and system developers with a working knowledge of C++ - those looking to acquire either an overview or a full understanding of the CORBA specifications.

“This is one of the most in-depth commercial books on the OMG standards work to date. It is a usage guide for enterprise developers, complete with example implementations of CORBA applications and details of the CORBA services. I am most impressed and plan to promote this book as part of the OMG repertoire.” CHRISTOPHER STONE, CEO of the Object Management Group. “Sean Baker has written the first book that truly illustrates how to develop real world distributed objects and applications with CORBA. Expert OO developers rarely take time off from building systems to write such an outstanding book. If you want concise and comprehensive coverage of CORBA which will shape next generation distributed software systems, read this book.” DOUG SCHMIDT, George Washington University “CORBA Distributed Objects provides a much needed transition from the abstract world of the CORBA standard to the practical details of building component-based systems. Using examples that are both thorough and understandable, the book makes the significance and benefits of this development approach clear. This book should be key reference for any designer or programmer of modern distributed systems.” JIM MALONEY, Manager - System Integration, Boeing.
