Officially approved by the standards and effectiveness unit at the DfEE and supporting the National Literacy Strategy training materials, the activity resource banks provide practical teaching exemplars linked to a selection of specific objectives in the National Literacy Framework. Fully photocopiable ideas for the teacher to exploit in whole class, group and plenary sessions act as models that teachers can adapt. The activities should be useful for all teachers regardless of whether they are incorporating the literacy hour in schools. Module 4 includes activities which focus mainly on text level work; offer practical follow-up tasks for group work; use stories, poems and simple recounts to develop children's own writing; highlight how stories are structured; and helps children think about character, setting, and plot.
