For this new edition, the text of the play, the notes, and the introductory matter have all been revised so as to make them clearer and more accessible. In addition, the entire text of the book has been redesigned and reset to make it easier to read. The illustrations have been completely redrawn, and photographs of recent stage production have been included.

"William Shakespeare, getauft 23.4.1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, gest. 23.4.1616 ebenda. Dramatiker Lyriker. Erziehung an der Lateinschule Stratford, seit Ende der 80er Jahre Schauspieler, um 1585 Übersiedlung nach London, wo er als Regisseur, Dramaturg und Bühnenschriftsteller blieb. 1592 erste Erwähnung als erfolgreicher Dramatiker und Schauspieler, Anschluss an Lord Chamberlain's Company, von 1597 an Mitinhaber des Globe-Theaters. Um 1610 Rückkehr nach Stratford als angesehener, begüterter Mann. Die erste maßgebliche Gesamtausgabe von Shakespeares Werken ist die Folio-Ausgabe von 1623."(Zitiert aus dem Theaterlexikon)
