Edgar Wind was the first Professor of the History of Art, University of Oxford (1955-67). His familiarity with art and its history was allied to a knowledge of the ancient classics, of literature in several languages, and of philosophy and aesthetics. This volume of his selected papers includes a biographical memoir by Sir Hugh Lloyd-Jones, former Regius Professor of Greek at the University of Oxford, which explores the varied life and intellectual development of one of the most original art historians of the 20th century.
