Vinay Lal has been Associate Professor of History at the University of California, Los Anegeles since 1993, and Director of the University of California Education Abroad Program in India. His previous books includeEmpire of Knowledge: Culture and Plurality in the Global Economy, The History ofHistory: Politics and Scholarship in Modern India (OUP 2003), Of Cricket, Guinness and Gandhi: Essays on Indian History and Culture,Introducing Hinduism, and The Other Indians: A Political and Cultural History of South Asians in America. He has also co-edited (with Ashis Nandy)Fingerprinting Popular Culture: The Mythic and the Iconic in Indian Cinema (OUP 2006).
