The premise of The Strengths Model is that rather than treating mental illness according to the pathology paradigm, which seeks to identify and correct the deficits that attend mental illness, practitioners should strive toward a strengths model of practice. Rapp describes the underlying principles of the strengths model, as well as practice methods. Each chapter also includes short case studies which illustrate the use of these methods and first-person perspectives of clients.
