Translated here for the first time, this medieval Hindu text is held sacred to the Mahanubhava sect of western India, whose literature was written in cipher and kept secret from all outsiders until the twentieth century. Its unusual themes derive from the wildly, and often amusingly, eccentric behavior of its protagonist, Gundam Raul, who is venerated by the mahanubhavas as an incarnation of the one God. Feldhaus's introduction supplies essential background information.
