The Oxford Textbook of Functional Anatomy is a book designed to meet the needs of today's medical students, who must gain a sound working knowledge of the structural basis of the body function in a much shorter time than the students of the past. The modern student must also be able to relate this understanding to modern clinical imaging techniques. Changes from the previous edition include: an updated chapter on medical imaging to keep pace with the technology of magnetic resonance; expanded sections on the musculoskeletal system and living anatomy; and a brand new chapter on stance and locomotion. This book encourages the student to observe this subject precisely and to record the structure and the macroscopic functions of the living body. The majority of observations are made with the eye or the hand, complemented by modern imaging techniques, the study of prosections, and a limited amount of dissection.
