Jennifer Ball, Professor of Sociology and Composition at Humber College, has an excellent teaching record, is highly rated by her students, and has a reputation for creative and engaging delivery. Her Master's thesis, entitled Constructing and Representing Identities of Criminalized Populations: "Framing" Art and Artists Living in Canadian Prisons, was nominated for a university-wide thesis award. Lorne Tepperman spent five decades teaching undergraduates. His research has touched on a range of interesting topics and he has written a variety of textbooks on social problems, social inequality, and the field of sociology more generally. Lorne's recent books include Real-Life Sociology, 3e (OUP, © 2024) with Anabel Quan-Haase; and Social Problems, 6e (OUP, © 2024) with Josh Curtis, Katherine Lyon, and Sandra Colavecchia. Recently retired from teaching, Lorne is still active in academia and is the sponsor of the Lorne Tepperman Outstanding Contribution to Teaching award and the Lorne Tepperman Prize for Public Sociology. Katherine Lyon is an Assistant Professor of Teaching in the Sociology department at UBC. She works within the fields of sociology of education and scholarship of teaching and learning, focusing on experiential pedagogies and inclusive assessment. In 2020, she developed a new course called COVID-19 and Society that invites students to examine COVID-19 as a global public issue, considering how pandemics inform social inequality, interpersonal interaction and societal change locally and internationally. OUP published COVID-19 and Society in 2021, based on this course. She is also a new co-author on Social Problems 6th edition.
