Patrick Hamilton (1904-1962), the son of an eccentric clergyman, was a repertory actor turned playwright and novelist. his novels, largely set in pubs and boarding houses, include "Hangover Square"; and the trilogy, "Twenty Thousand Streets Under the Sky". He also wrote the famous plays "Rope" and "Gaslight".
