Biofuels and Biorefining: Volume One: Current Technologies for Biomass Conversion considers the conventional processes for biofuels and biomass-derived products in single and biorefinery schemes. Sections address the fundamentals of the transformation of biomass into fuels and products, including a discussion of current and future scenarios, potential raw materials that can be used, the main processing technologies and their commercial potential, and a description of the concept of biorefinery and the opportunities offered by this approach. Each chapter is supported by industry case studies covering the development of each product, fuel type, and biorefinery.
This book provides an integrated approach to biofuels production and process intensification that will be useful to researchers involved in all aspects of bioenergy, particularly those interested in cost reduction, environmental impact and enhanced production.

Biofuels and Biorefining offers readers a holistic view of sustainable biofuels production from fundamental technologies to process intensification, while considering social, environmental, and economic impacts. This two-volume set addresses all aspects of biofuels production and co-production with value-added products and combines that with process intensification and optimization, providing an integrated guide to the cost effective and sustainable production of biofuels for future energy sustainability.
Volume 1: Fundamentals and Modelling of Conventional Technologies considers the conventional processes for biofuels and biomass-derived products in single and biorefinery schemes. Chapter 1 addresses the fundamentals of the transformation of biomass into fuels and products, including a discussion of current and future scenarios. In chapter 2, the different raw materials that have the potential to be transformed into biofuels and products are presented, including their characteristics and availability. From chapters 3 to 10 the book covers the main processing technologies and their commercial potential, including analysis of the areas of opportunity in the production of each fuel or product. Finally, chapter 11 provides a description of the concept of biorefinery, the opportunities offered by this approach, and advances in the development of biorefineries worldwide. Each chapter is supported by industry case studies covering the development of each product, fuel type, and biorefinery.
Biofuels and Biorefining provides an integrated approach to biofuels production and process intensification that is useful to researchers involved in all aspects of bioenergy, particularly those interested in cost reduction, environmental impact, and enhanced production.
