This book is a revision of an introductory undergraduate textbook which, using only minimal mathematics, explains the basic concepts of signals and linear systems analysis that play a role in the hearing and speech sciences. Although not an introduction to speech and hearing per se, all of the examples discussed in the text are drawn from relevant areasprimarily the peripheral auditory system and the source-filer theory of speech production. The book provides a comprehensive course for the student entirely new to the field, while also providing a reference for the experienced worker. Exercises are provided at the end of each chapter.
