Inhaltsangabe

This book is a follow-up to Ivins Olefin Metathesis, (Academic Press, 1983). Bringing the standard text in the field up to date, this Second Edition is a result of rapid growth in the field, sparked by the discovery of numerous well-defined metal carbene complexes that can act as very efficient initiators of all types of olefin metathesis reaction, including ring-closing metathesis of acyclic dienes, enynes, and dienynes; ring-opening metathesis polymerizationof cycloalkenes, acyclic diene metathesis polymerization; and polymerization of alkynes, as well as simple olefin metathesis.

Olefin Metathesis and Metathesis Polymerization provides a broad, up-to-date account of the subject from its beginnings in 1957 to the latest applications in organic synthesis. The book follows the same format as the original, making it useful toteachers and to researchers, and will be of particular interest to those working in the fields of organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, organometallic chemistry, catalysis, materials science and chemical engineering.

Über die Autorinnen und Autoren

K.J. Ivin obtained his Ph.D. in 1948 from the University of Cambridge, England, and then held fellowships at NRC, Ottawa, Canada and the University of Leeds, England. He was appointed to the academic staff at Leeds in 1953 and moved to The Queen's University of Belfast in 1966 as Professor of Physical Chemistry. Since retiring in 1986 he has maintained an active collaboration with various groups working on ring-opening metathesis polymerization.

J.C. Mol graduated as a chemical engineer from the Technical University of Delft, The Netherlands, in 1964. He obtained his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Amsterdam in 1971 where he presently heads a research group working on heterogeneous catalysis, particularly in the field of olefin metathesis.

Von der hinteren Coverseite

Olefin Metahesis by K.J. Ivin was published in 1983. There has since been a great surge of activity in this field, sparked by the discovery of numerous well-defined metal carbene complexes that can act as very efficient initiators of all types of olefin metathesis reaction: ring-closing metathesis of acyclic dienes, enynes and dienynes; ring-opening methathesis polymerization of cycloalkenes; acrylic diene metathesis polymerization; and polymerization of alkynes, as well as simple olefin metathesis. In the last few years molybdenum carbene complexes and the air-and water-stable ruthenium carbene complexes have cme to the fore as very effective catalysts in the synthesis of numerous compounds of biologicial importance; also for the preparation of well-defined polymers and block copolymers of very narrow molecular weight distribution. Functional groups now present no problem in the metathesis reactions of either cyclic or acyclic olefins.Olefin Metathesis and Metathesis Polymerization provides a broad, up-to-date account of the subject from its beginnings around 1960 to the latest applications in organic synthesis. It is assembled along the same lines as the earlier book so as to be useful to both teachers and researchers and will be of particular interest to those working in the fields of organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, organometallic chemistry, catalysis, materials science and chemical engineering.
