With the National Curriculum requirements now reduced at Key Stage 4, issues of relevance and transfer of learning across subjects will again come to prominence. Teachers will need to look closely at the curriculum and assessment requirements of their syllabuses, considering where there is overlap and how that can be used to make the GCSE experience more productive for students, in terms both of learning and of examination success. This book is based on extensive work in 29 schools and colleges in eleven English LEAs, which then led to more detailed work in four selected schools, aimed at exploring, describing and clarifying the key issues in approaching cross-subject work. It focuses on the experiences of teachers when planning and carrying out interdisciplinary coursework, considering what was successful, what was less so, and why. It describes a wide range of approaches to cross-subject work, and shows how teachers can best reap the benefits of this style of curriculum management.
