Sir Richard Owen (1804-1892), comparative anatomist, colleague and later antagonist of Darwin, and Head of the British Museum (Natural History) chose not to publish his views in a major theoretical work. Instead he presented them through a series of lectures at the Royal College of Surgeons from 1837 to 1865.
