Understanding Argument - Softcover

This rhetoric offers an introduction to the nature of argument that blends both classical and Toulmin patterns, and instruction on how to read, analyze and write effective arguments. This work contains 56 articles which are arranged thematically around seven issues. Although most essays are current, several classic works are also included so that students may develop an historical context for current debates. To provide a context for reading with understanding, each chapter begins with an introduction to the issues examined; headnotes and questions for analysis and discussion are provided for each essay; and suggestions for writing are provided at the end of each chapter.
