This work is the first of two edited volumes covering financial institutions. It focuses on subjects dealing primarily with commercial banks. The companion volume concentrates on non-bank intermediaries. Volume One consists of five parts that deal with key topics in banking: the theory of the banking firm; the lending process; financial distress; interest-rate exposure management; and bank regulation. It can be used as a supplement or core text in courses on bank or financial institutions management and in MBA or advanced undergraduate courses on financial institutions. It could also be used to supplement Kohn's "Financial Institutions and Markets".
