Following the author's earlier book "London 2000", this publication takes a new look at planning in London and the South East of England. This book looks back and examines the achievements. It asks what happened to the dream of the 1960s for a multi-centred city-region. It argues that the need for a strategic plan is as urgent as it was in the 1960s. Hall focuses on the South East, a region surrounded by controversy, with congestion and overheating in some areas coupled with economic collapse and deprivation in others, and concludes with a vision of what it could become, with proper strategic guidance, by the start of the 21st century.
