It is based upon the papers that were presented, and the discussion that took place, at the two-day conference held to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Department of Social Science at the London School of Economics. The contributors include some of the most eminent analysts of social policy in Britain and the book also contains contributions from Hungarian, Norwegian, Swedish and American scholars.
