Professor Robert Alter is Professor of Hebrew and Comparative Literature at the University of California, Berkeley, and has written many books including The Art of Biblical Narrative and The Art of Biblical Poetry.

Professor Sir Frank Kermode has been Professor at several universities, including London, Cambridge, Harvard and Columbia. He is the Editor of the Fontana Modern Masters and Masterguides series.
