Críticas:
English review follows Dyma gyfrol eithriadol o braf iw bodio. Cyfrol o luniau yw hi'n gyntaf oll, rhai du a gwyn, yn cofnodi taith or Gaiman yn y Wladfa i Gwm Hyfryd wrth draed yr Andes. Eilbeth ywr testun ar lawer ystyr, ond maen dal yn rhan bwysig iawn or gyfrol hefyd. Maer llyfr yn rhoi cipolwg ar fywyd garw rhai o bobl Patagonia, ac yn rhoi peth goleuni i ni ar antur enfawr y mewnfudwyr cynnar ir Wladfa. Adrodd hanes taith grwp o bobl yn 2005 oedd am ddathlu siwrnai fentrus y Cymry or Gaiman ir Andes y maer gyfrol gyfan. Grwp o wyr a fentrodd 700 cilometr ar draws y paith yn 1885 oedd y Los Rifleros, ugain mlynedd wedi glaniad y Mimosa yn y Wladfa. Llwyddodd Matthew Rhys i berswadior criw oedd am ail-greu taith y Los Rifleros iw dderbyn fel un or grwp, a'r nod oedd cyrraedd Cwm Hyfryd erbyn y dathliadau blynyddol yno. Maer gyfrol wedyn yn bortreadau du a gwyn or cwmni, lluniau or daith ar ceffylau ac ugain pwt byr o destun ar wahanol bynciau. Mae ambell bennod yn portreadu pobl, ar penodau hyn sydd yn aros yn y cof. Roedd Vincent, er enghraifft, wedi breuddwydio am y daith hon ar hyd ei fywyd, ac wedi paratoi'n fanwl, ond wedi gorfod cyfaddef ar ol tridiau fod y cyfan yn ormod iw esgyrn deg a thrigain oed. Yn l Matthew Rhys, roedd Vincent wedi cyfaddef iddo grio yr holl ffordd adref. Mae edmygedd tawel yn y portread o Mario Miguens, arweinydd y daith, ac un a fun gymorth mawr i Matthew Rhys wrth drin ei geffyl. Disgrifir Nantlais, brawd Vincent, fel tad-cu a Trefor fel un wedi ei naddu or graig. Penodau byrion iawn ywr rhain ond mae cynildeb y disgrifiadau yn caniatu ir lluniau ddod r cymeriadau yn fyw. Mae cynildeb y dweud yn y gyfrol hon yn beth amheuthun. Os trowch ati'n disgwyl llif geiriau a disgrifiadau manwl, fe gewch eich siomi. Cewch yr un siom os ydych yn chwilio am hanes arwriaeth y Cymry yn 1885. Yr hyn a geir yw lluniau du a gwyn llawn cymeriad lluniau sy'n cael siarad drostynt eu hunain gan ddefnyddio geiriau yn ffrm iddynt a dim mwy. Maen gyfrol sydd yn rhoi i chi flas ar gwmnaeth gynnes a hynny ar daith galed trwy dirwedd llwm. Mae rhywun yn ymdeimlo llawenydd a hiraeth y bennod olaf wrth ei darllen ac yn teimlo didwylledd y perthyn a deimlodd Matthew Rhys ar y daith. John Roberts ******************************************* This is primarily a photographic journal of a journey on horseback from Chubut on the eastern coast of Patagonia to Cwm Hyfryd in the Andes foothills. The journey was completed by a group of horsemen in 2005 and was an attempt to replicate the epic journey by the Los Rifleros de Chubut group who went to seek new lands in 1885. The Welsh settlement in Patagonia was twenty years old by then and the bleak dusty lands were proving too difficult to farm, so they travelled 700 kilometres over a five week period to arrive in a wonderful green valley which they named Cwm Hyfryd (Beautiful Valley). Matthew Rhys was accepted as a member of the journey to celebrate 120 years since the first journey. The journal includes black and white photographs from the first journey as well as the 2005 journey. The photographs give a glimpse of the hard life and the harsh and dusty environment of the plain. There are photographs of people, of day-to-day events and of the vast dusty plain, most of which have been taken by Matthew Rhys himself. The journal is also coloured by a brief and evocative piece of text in both Welsh and English. The writing is as bare as the plain itself, but it frames the photographs well. The twenty chapters are divided into portrayals of the travellers as well as milestones on the way. The text gives the photographs colour and in a surprisingly simple way brings people like Vincent, Nantlais, Mario Miguens and Trefor alive. The final chapter has captured a deep feeling of hiraeth that a pilgrimage evokes in its participants. One feels that this book is a tangible statement of Matthew Rhyss feeling of belonging during the journey. Reseña del editor:
This is Hollywood actor Matthew Rhys's photographic account of his month-long journey on horseback from the Atlantic to the Andes. His co-riders were all descendants of the 30 Welsh speakers who had made the same gruelling journey 125 years ago.
