Reseña del editor:
On May 14, 1948, the State of Israel came back into being. David Ben-Gurion spoke to the People of the Diaspora, declaring Israel's independence to the world, telling them and the world that the dream of the Jews had at last come true, in the birth of a new nation, the rebirth of an ancient country. In 1990, Fred and Ana, inspired by the great dream of setting foot on the Promised Land, moved to Israel. They never imagined that the evil ambitions of Iraq's ghoulish dictator Saddam Hussein would so soon produce such profound effects upon not just them but the entire Israeli population. Two decades have passed since the turbulent events that wrote this chapter in the history of the world, of Israel, and of Fred and Ana. In their own way, this elderly couple represent how the nation of Israel and the peoples of the world endured and triumphed in the face of fiendish evil and continued on their way, resolute and optimistic.
Biografía del autor:
Federico Zagalsky, who has traveled the world extensively in the course of a long career in journalism and public relations, was living in Israel with his wife Ana at the time of the First Gulf War (1991). Impressed by the strength and resilience of the Israeli people in the face of the ongoing missile attacks launched by Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, he was moved to write this story of the reborn nation of Israel bravely enduring the state of siege, as seen through the eyes of an elderly Jewish immigrant couple.
