ABC British Railways Locomotives Combined Volume 1950: Includes Locoshed Allocations: v.1950 (Abc S.) - Hardcover

First published almost 55 years ago this Combined Volume comprises all the locomotives that were in traffic, or on order, in the summer of 1950. This is a particularly interesting period as it includes 'non steam' locomotives in the shape of the two gas turbine locomotives, no's 18000 and 80001; alongside the precursors of the standard British Railways diesel shunter, ultimately the 08 class, and not forgetting Bulleid's ill-fated 'Leader' class which was to prove a costly failure. Main line electric traction is also evident with the listing of the now long gone 'Woodhead' electrics. Whilst the BR standard steam locomotives are not yet in evidence, the first examples arriving in Spring 1951 (although the War Department 2-8-0s and 2-10-0s are there); a portent for the future is that the former LMS and Southern main line diesels are listed. Originally comprising of the individual parts, covering the 'Big Four' railway companies, this Combined Volume also includes locoshed allocations, for steam diesel and electric traction for the summer of 1950.
