On of the most used phrases that was heard in the inspectors' area of the office was, "I tell you that I saw this most incredible sight today and if I could, I would write a book about it." The only problem is that no one would believe it. INCREDIBLE!!! tells the true life stories of a chief building inspector in New York City. Stories such as walking into a railroad room house of prostitution where no one looked up to greet you or question you, attempting to evacuate structures that were about to fall and being threatened by tenants. One tenant refused to leave until he was convinced that his dog would be dead tomorrow...the next day the tenant showed up at his apartment to find the bed covered with bricks. I was born in 1927 and raised in Brooklyn. I attended East N.Y. Voc. High School. After graduation I went directly into the Navy and served until 1945. I worked as a bricklayer foreman for approx. 10 years, then joined the Building Department. For 28 years I advanced through the ranks with schooling and tests to become the chief inspector. I worked in four of the five boros of New York and was honored with one of the biggest and best testimonial dinners I ever attended.
