With a subscriber list that includes Benjamin Franklin, Charles Pinckney, and James De Lancey. This volume was commissioned by the colonial assembly in order to codify the body of laws that had accrued since becoming a crown colony in 1690. Livingston and Smith were prominent New York attorneys who followed divergent paths during the Revolution. Smith, a loyalist, served as Chief Justice of New York during the British occupation. He settled in Canada after the war, served as Chief Justice of Quebec, and ended his career as the first chief justice of Lower Canada. Livingston was an ardent supporter of American independence and a delegate to the First, Second, and Third Continental Congresses. He became New Jersey's governor in 1776 and represented that state at the Constitutional Convention in 1787. The importance of this publication is evident in its subscriber list, a virtual "who's who" of colonial statesmen. It appears that fewer than 200 copies of this volume were printed, counting the 169 subscriber copies and three official copies produced for the colony. Aponte Moreno, Marco: Metaphors in Hugo Chavez's Political Discourse Conceptualizing Nation, Revolution, and Opposition, VDM VERLAG DR. MÜLLER, , Besorgungstitel - vorauss. Lieferzeit 3-5 Tage. ISBN: 3639115252
This book provides the first comprehensive analysisof metaphors used by Hugo Chavez in his efforts to construct andlegitimize his Bolivarian Revolution. It focuses on metaphors drawn from three of his most frequent target domains:the nation, his revolution, and the opposition. The author arguesthat behind an official discourse of inclusion, Chavez's choice of metaphors contributes to the construction of apolarizing discourse of exclusion in which his political opponents arerepresented as enemies of the nation. Chavez constructs this polarizing discourse of exclusion by combiningmetaphors that conceptualize: (a) the nation as a person who hasbeen resurrected by his government, as a person ready to fight for his revolution, or as Chavez himself; (b) the revolutionas war; and (c) members of the opposition as war combatants orcriminals. At the same time, by making explicit references in his discourse about the revolution as the continuation ofSimon Bolivar's wars of independence, Chavez contributes to representopponents as enemies of the nation, given that in the Venezuelan collective imaginary Bolivar is the symbolof the nation's emancipation.
