Carter, Rubin "Hurricane": The 16th Round. From Number 1 Contender to Number 45472. 1974. Cloth with dustjacket.
New York: Viking. 1974. First edition. Cloth and paper covered boards. Lower edge has a faint mark else fine in dustjacket with a trace of wear to the extremities and a short closed tear to the head else fine. A spectacular copy of this autobiography of Rubin "Hurricane" Carter which was originally published as an attempt by Carter to set the record straight and force a new trial in connection with his imprisonment after he was found guilty of the murder of three white people in a New Jersey bar in 1967. At the time, Carter was a top contender for the world mddleweight boxing crown. The book was made into a motion picture directed by Norman Jewison and starred Denzel Washington. An incredible story. Uncommon in any edition, especially in this first cloth edition. A great book.
