Nabokov, Vladimir, Schriftsteller (1899-1977). Ms. Brief mit eigenh. U. Los Angeles, 3. X. 1960.
Schöner Brief des passionierten Lepidopterologen an den Entomologen John G. Franclemont (1912-2004): "I am mailing you three round tins of papered leps which I collected this year in California (mainly Mandeville Canyon, Los Angeles and Glacier Lodge, Inyo County) in between working on the screenplay of LOLITA. Therein you will find two subspecies of an interesting Cercyonis (conspecific with behri, paula, and masoni) from both localities, and some good examples of P. emigdionis from above San Bernadino. The names on the envelopes are provisional jottings since I had no time to study the material, had no reference works with me and have no memory for names. I shall be happy if your museum accepts these butterflies adding them to the previous batches [...]". He was interested in collecting one of the 'Whites', Pieris virginiensis. One trip that I recall with pleasure was to McLean Bogs in the second week of May; it was an afternoon of delightful weather and discussions, but no white butterflies" ("Remembering Nabokov: Cornell Colleagues and Others". In: The Achievements of Vladimir Nabokov. Hrsg. v. George Gibian und Stephen Jan Parker. Ithaca, New York: Center for International Studies, Cornell University, 1984, S. 227f.
