To Explain the Construction, the Parts and the Form of the Marine Trumpet, and the Manner of Playing It". From Wikipedia "Marin Mersennus or le Pere Mersenne (1588-1648) was a French theologian, philosopher, mathematician and music theorist, often referred to as the 'father of acoustics'. His best known work is Traite de l'harmonie universelle (also referred to as Harmonie universelle) of 1636, dealing with the theory of music and musical instruments. It is regarded as a source of information on 17th century music, especially French music and musicians, to rival even the works of Pietro Cerone". An incredible set. This copy is from the library of renowned Broadway director, Tom O'Horgan, who among many others productions, directed the original productions of "Hair" and "Jesus Christ Superstar" on Broadway. A great set and important reference. Uncommon in any edition, especially in this beautiful condition, especially with such a wonderful provenance. Text in French.
