Sm4to from 9" to 11". xii, 677 pp, quarterbound w/brown-tan patterned boards w/tan cloth covered spine w/tipped on title label on spine, Limited and Number #1129 of 1500, and signed by the engraver, Bruno Bramanti and the printer, Giovanni Mardersteig. The 1844 translation revised and with introduction by Ronald H. Boothroyd and illustrated with designs of Francesco Gonin engraved for this edition by Bruno Bramanti. The book was based on the historical events of the War of the Mantuan Succession and the outbreak of plague in Milan in the year 1630. The Betrothed was Manzoni's only noveland it was written in 1821-1823, in three volumes. In 1840 he published a second edition.
