Barrett, Scott: Environment and Statecraft The Strategy of Environmental Treaty-Making, Oxford University Press, November 2005 ISBN: 0199286094
Environmental problems like global climate change and stratospheric ozone depletion can only be remedied if states cooperate with one another. But sovereign states usually care only about their own interests. So states must somehow restructure the incentives to make cooperation pay. This is BR what treaties are meant to do. BR A few treaties, such as the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, succeed. Most, however, fail to alter the state behavior appreciably. This book develops theory that explains both the successes and the failures. In particular, the book explains when treaties are needed, why BR some work better than others, and how treaty design can be improved. The best treaties strategically manipulate the incentives states have to exploit the environment, and the theory developed in this book shows how treaties can do this. BR The theory integrates a number of disciplines, including economics, political science, international law, negotiation analysis, and game theory. It also offers a coherent and consistent approach. The essential assumption is that treaties be self-enforcing that is, individually rational, BR collectively rational and fair. BR The book applies the theory to a number of environmental problems. It provides information on more than three-hundred treaties, and analyses a number of case studies in detail. These include depletion of the ozone layer, whaling, pollution of the Rhine, acid rain, over-fishing, pollution of the BR oceans, and global climate change. BR The essential lesson of the book is that treaties should not just tell countries what to do. Treaties must make it in the interests of countries to behave differently. Thatis, they must restructure the underlying game. Most importantly, they must create incentives for states to participate in a BR treaty and for parties to comply.

Hoelzl, Erik/Pradel, Julia/Fetchenhauer, Detlef: A boat trip through economic change Proceedings of the IAREP/SABE/ICABEEP 2010 Conference, Cologne, DUSTRI; PABST SCIENCE PUBLISHERS, 080 ISBN: 3899676513
Especially in times of economic change, interdisciplinary approaches provide valuable information toward mastering the socioeconomic challenges ahead. This book contains the proceedings from a joint conference of two major scientific organizations in the intersection of psychology and economics. Both IAREP (International Association for Research in Economic Psychology) and SABE (Society for the Advancement of Behavioral Economics) bring together researchers from different backgrounds who are interested in an interdisciplinary approach to human behavior in economic contexts. The topics of the conference cover a broad range of classical and novel approaches. For example, several contributions include individual and group decision making, social dilemmas, intertemporal choice, and game-theoretical analyses. There are also a variety of topics that concern the management of scarce resources; for example, buying, giving, credit use, investment, tax behavior, and energy-saving. Recurring themes throughout this conference are happiness, well-being, and life satisfaction. Taken together, the conference contributions represent a comprehensive overview of topics in contemporary economic psychology and behavioral economics. The current book aims at conserving this overview and providing a snapshot in the changing history of the field.

E. Losoncy, Lewis: If It Weren't for You, We Could Get Along!: How to Stop Blaming and Start Living; 230 x 155 x 19 MM . ; InSync Communications,US, 2003. ISBN: 9781932021042
new item; well packed; Neuware; Rechnung mit MwSt.; Bestellungen bis 15 Uhr werden am gleichen Werktag verschickt...............In language that makes the reader smile -- even laugh, the author addresses the game we've all played throughout our lives: the blame game. One of America's most popular author/speakers provides insight and solutions to dealing with the small, often stupid, unrelated events in our lives that cause us unneeded anxiety and creates problems at home, at work, at school, on teams, and within relationships. From bank lines that seemingly grow longer once we enter them...to drivers that won't let us pull onto highways...to changes in weather...readers are given practical ways of handling "things" we can't change and moving on with our lives before we get needlessly burdened down. On average, we have about 2,500,000,000 seconds of life to live! Why would we want to waste this limited time blaming others for things that don't go our way? Why do we spend time dwelling on the past? Why don't we accept "what is" and stop blaming reality? The choice is ours. This book shows the way. ISBN 9781932021042 , ISBN: 1932021043
