Buch
Zustand: Gut. 456 S.; 22 cm. Gutes Ex. - Englisch. // HOW has a theory of man as a social being to be formulated if we are to do justice to his individuality, to the subtle ways in which his love and hate compete within his relations with others and to the anxieties and resistances he shows when he seeks to change himself? To answer this question is the task which the author sets himself. From a background of philosophy, theology and social studies, he went on to take a personal psycho* analysis and to become a full-time psychotherapist, and it is from this combination of wide knowledge and intensive work with people beset by conflicts in their relations with themselves and others that Dr Guntrip evolves his views. After assessing Freud's basic principles he proceeds to make a uniquely comprehensive review of subsequent theoretical contributions to psycho-analysis with special emphasis on the work of Fairbairn and Melanie Klein, as it is in their writings that he considers the most needed developments have been made, namely, the placing of the theory of personality squarely in the realm of human interaction. In the first part of Dr Guntrip's book all students of personality will find an arresting survey of the development of psycho-analytic thought; in the latter part they will meet highly stimulating and profound views on the origins and nature of the conflicting forces in human relationships. The interplay of these impulses has been studied closely in recent years, particularly in regard to the everyday affairs of normal people. This study, in separate parts by the two authors, is particularly concerned with the interplay of these impulses in the everyday lives of normal people. It shows how the impulses develop from their beginnings in childhood, how our innate capacities for love and aggression seize upon opportunities for expression, and how these influence the growth of character. -- Fourth Impression -- i2s 6d NET -- CONTENTS -- PREFACE -- -- HATE, GREED AND AGGRESSION -- By Joan Riviere -- Aggression -- Projection -- Distribution -- Rejection -- Depreciation and Contempt -- Envy -- Greed -- Delusional Hate -- Envy of the Other Sex -- Rivalry -- Love of Power -- Jealousy -- Conscience, Morality and Love -- LOVE, GUILT AND REPARATION -- By Melanie Klein -- The Emotional Situation of the Baby -- Unconscious Sense of Guilt -- Love and Conflicts in Relation to the Parents -- Love, Guilt and Reparation -- Identification and Making Reparation -- A Happy Love Relationship -- Parenthood -- Difficulties in Family Relationships -- Choice of Love Partner -- Achieving Independence -- Relationships in School Life -- Relationships in Adolescence -- The Development of Friendships -- Friendships in Adult Life -- Wider Aspects of Love -- Sense of Guilt, Love and Creativeness -- The Relationship to Ourselves and to Others -- ( The two parts of this book are based on public lectures delivered under the auspices of the Institute of Psycho-Analysis in March 1936. at the Caxton Hall, Westminster, under the general title of ' The Emotional Life of Civilized Men and Women.' ) . Zustand: A very good copy. Edition : Third edition. , contemporary green cloth board, title in gilt on flat spine., Civilization and Its Discontents is a book by Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis. It was written in 1929 and first published in German in 1930 as Das Unbehagen in der Kultur ("The Uneasiness in Civilization"). Exploring what Freud sees as the important clash between the desire for individuality and the expectations of society, the book is considered one of Freud's most important and widely read works, and one of the most influential and studied books in the field of modern psychology. Freud enumerates what he sees as the fundamental tensions between civilization and the individual. The primary friction, he asserts, stems from the individual's quest for instinctive freedom and civilization's contrary demand for conformity and repression of instincts. Freud states that when any situation that is desired by the pleasure principle is prolonged, it creates a feeling of mild contentment. Many of humankind's primitive instincts (for example, the desire to kill and the insatiable craving for sexual gratification) are clearly harmful to the well-being of a human community. As a result, civilization creates laws that prohibit killing, rape, and adultery, and it implements severe punishments if these rules are broken. Thus our possibilities for happiness are restricted by the law. This process, argues Freud, is an inherent quality of civilization that gives rise to perpetual feelings of discontent among its citizens. Freud's theory is based on the notion that humans have certain characteristic instincts that are immutable. These include, most notably, the desires for sex, and the predisposition to violent aggression towards authority figures and sexual competitors, who obstruct the individual's path to gratification.Sigmund Freud (1856 ? 1939) was an Austrian neurologist and the founder of psychoanalysis, a clinical method for treating psychopathology through dialogue between a patient and a psychoanalyst. Freud's work has suffused contemporary Western thought and popular culture. He qualified as a doctor of medicine in 1881 at the University of Vienna. Upon completing his habilitation in 1885, he was appointed a docent in neuropathology and became an affiliated professor in 1902. Freud lived and worked in Vienna, having set up his clinical practice there in 1886. In 1938 Freud left Austria to escape the Nazis. He died in exile in the United Kingdom in 1939., Size : 8vo., Translated from Germ.
