Golden Hoard Press, Singapore 2018. First Edition. 4°. Translated by Ebenezer Sibley. Introduction by Stephen Skinner & Daniel Clark. Additonal texts by Frederick Hockley. With bibliography and index, well illustrated, many in full page colour. xxiv, 497 S. Sturdy black paperback with gilt embossing on the spine and gold-stamped sigil on the cover and original dust jacket as well as Marbled endpapers. Sourceworks of Ceremonial Magic. Volume X. - "This manuscript grimoire contains magical formulae and procedures dating back to 1520, which were brought together in 1789 by Dr. Ebenezer Sibley. After his death in 1799 copyists like Frederick Hockley continued to add chapters and even whole "books" to the manuscript. Finally in the 19th century this particular copy was made by a master calligrapher. Although there are a number of other manuscript copies of the Clavis or Key to Unlock the Mysteries of Magic located in libraries spread around the world (14 at last count), this one is totally unique. It is 45% longer and more complete than any other copy, and illustrated with a large number of pentacles from the Key of Solomon, featuring 8-12 for every one of the 7 planets. There are a range of detailed methods for evoking spirits and binding them, with an explanatory commentary by the editors which is not directed towards just theory and history, but to practical usage. Specific spirits, such as Birto, Agares, Vassago and Bealpharos and the methods for invoking them are explained, with illustrations of the form the spirits usually appear in. As you might expect, there is a whole section on skrying in the crystal, and the use of the magic bell, which explains the differences between evoking the spirit outside the circle in a triangle and seeing its image in a crystal. Methods involving the use of the Demon Kings to compel the lesser spirits, which have never appeared in any other published grimoires, are explained in detail. As well as the pentacles there are many talismans for very practical purposes, such as compelling a thief to return your stolen goods, causing destruction to your enemies, creating love between two people, or just for casual "amorous intrigues", curing some diseases, and for defending your home against both burglars and malicious spirits. This extraordinary grimoire marks the high point in Victorian illustrated grimoires" (Cover text). - A copy in almost mint condition. Sprache : en.

A fine copy, the binding square and tight, the contents clean throughout and without previous owner's marks. Issued in a limited edition of 250 copies, this example hand-numbered 29 and signed by Stephen Skinner on the limitation page. Published as volume III in the Sourceworks of Ceremonial Magic series. The Goetia is the most famous grimoire after the Key of Solomon. The owner of this handbook of sorcery was Dr. Thomas Rudd, the most important scholar-magician of the early seventeenth century, and a magical successor to Dr. John Dee. The Goetia of Dr. Rudd explains how the 72 angels of the Shemhamphorash are used to evoke and safely bind demons, material that has not been made available in any previous edition. This rare volume contains the complete text of a hitherto unpublished manuscript of the Lemegeton, or Lesser Key of Solomon and includes illustrations drawn from the manuscripts held in the British Library. Further details and images for any of the items listed are available on request. Lucius Books welcomes direct contact with our customers.

Signed limited edition, number 142 of 200 copies signed by the editor. This is Skinner's comprehensive revision of his 1974 facsimile edition of Meric Casaubon's compilation of the Elizabethan occultist's communications with spirits, first published in 1659. Dee and Casaubon disagreed on whether the messages Dee had received originated from angels or from demons. Meric Casaubon (1599-1671) was a classical scholar and steadfast advocate of the Church of England; his edition of Dee's journals, first published in 1659, sought to discredit the dissenting religious radicals of the Civil War and Interregnum periods. Casaubon perceived the supernatural spirits that Dee had communed with as demons, and argued that they not only served as proof of the existence of God, but also demonstrated the necessity of an established church to interpret spiritual messages. The present work is the most comprehensive edition available, and reproduces Casaubon's text along with an introduction, appendix, timeline, and textual footnotes. John Dee (1527-1608/9) was an English astronomer, mathematician, and occultist. He is best known for his position as court astronomer and advisor to Elizabeth I, and for his interest in the Hermetic and esoteric arts of alchemy, divination, and astrology. He was particularly enthusiastic about establishing contact with angels, whom he believed held beneficial knowledge that could improve mankind. Dee and his scryer, Edward Kelley (1555-1597/8), developed an "Enochian" language, complete with its own alphabet, to record in their journals the angelic wisdom they received. Skinner (b. 1948) is a scholar of magic and feng shui. He has published widely on various topics pertaining to the Western esoteric tradition, such as alchemy, sacred geometry, and grimoires. Large quarto. Original black half roan, red imitation leather sides, spine and front cover lettered in gilt, Dee's arms in gilt to front cover, marbled endpapers. Portrait frontispiece, numerous illustrations, photographs, and facsimiles within text, floriated initials, title page printed in red and black. Corners very slightly rubbed, faint foxing to edges, contents clean: a near-fine copy.
