Paperback. Zustand: Very Good. Geoffrey Keating was a 17th century Roman Catholic priest, poet and historian from County Tipperary. Here, selections from his major work, the History of Ireland or Foras Feasa ar Eirinn, are presented by the late Irish language scholar Osborn Bergin. The original work, completed in 1634, traces the history of Ireland from the earliest times to the invasion of the Normans in the 12th century, using historical poetry, annals and ecclesiastical records. Bergin presents extracts from the romantic stories with an introduction, notes and vocabulary. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Paperback. Zustand: Very Good. Rooney, David (illustrator). This book is a selection of 40 articles from the Royal Irish Academys Dictionary of Irish Biography, dealing with 42 men and women whose careers, in one way or another, were deeply involved with the Easter rising of 1916. The biographies selected compose an inclusively broad picture of the rising, representing the spectrum of personalities and perspectives that were involved in the event. They include not only the insurgents (and some others) killed during the rising but also some of the women who were involved as soldiers or in supporting capacities; three nationalist leaders who opposed the rising; some of the senior figures in the British administration in Ireland in 1916; members of the British army that suppressed the rising; and two historians who made considerable contributions to the scholarly debate on 1916. This selection aims to give a balanced view of the rising. In addition to the biographies, there is an extended introduction by Patrick Maume, Queens University Belfast, and each biography is illustrated with an original drawing by artist David Rooney. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Unbound. Zustand: Fine. First edition. Folio, Linen portfolio with two loosely mounted broadsides, printed on vellum, one with calligraphy by Timothy O'Neill. Slight bump at upper corner of slipcase, else fine. The linen portfolio opens to reveal two separate broadsides, printed on vellum, each loosely mounted within card-framed window. One broadside provides information about the publication, the other prints the text of Seamus Heaney's "version" of an early Irish poem, "Columcille the Scribe," written on vellum by calligrapher Timothy O'Neill. "Columcille the Scribe is a version by Seamus Heaney of an early Irish poem beginning 'Sgith mo crob on scribinn'. The poet translated the poem to celebrate his enrollment as a member of the Royal Irish Academy in the Guildhall, Derry, on the 9th of June, 1997, the fourteen-hundredth anniversary of the death of Columcille. Dr. Heaney commissioned Tim O'Neill, calligrapher and authority on early Irish manuscripts, to write the poem on vellum and he presented it to the Academy on the occasion of his admission as a member. Dr. Heaney has graciously granted permission to the Academy Library to issue 150 signed copies of the poem, each written out in a script derived from the 'Cathach', by Tim O'Neill on vellum.". One of 150 numbered copies, signed by Seamus Heaney and Timothy O'Neill.
