Many scholarly footnotes and useful references. "This is a reprinting of the section on elephant first appearing in the author's 1859 two-volume work, Ceylon: An Account of the Island. Additional material has been added from various sources, particularly in regards to natural history. Included is a chapter on elephant shooting with some notes taken from Samuel White Baker."
