Paperback. Zustand: Very Good. WINNER OF THE AMERICAN BOOK AWARD AND THE LA TIMES BOOK AWARD 'Masterly. Brilliantly crafted, powerfully written and deftly reported' Guardian The urgent and unforgettable true story of post-Katrina New Orleans . . . In August 2005, as Hurricane Katrina blew in, the city of New Orleans has been abandoned by most citizens. But resident Abdulrahman Zeitoun, though his wife and family had gone, refused to leave. For days he traversed an apocalyptic landscape of flooded streets by canoe. But eventually he came to the attention of those 'guarding' this drowned city. Only then did Zeitoun's nightmare really begin. Zeitoun is the powerful, ultimately uplifting true story of one man's courage when confronted with an awesome force of nature followed by more troubling human oppression. 'Eggers uses Zeitoun's eyes to report on America's reasonless post-Katrina world, Reminiscent of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's documentaries, this is a true story told with the skills of a master of fiction. Immensely readable' Independent 'The stuff of great narrative non-fiction. Fifty years from now, when people want to know what happened to this once-great city, they will be talking about a family named Zeitoun' The New York Times Book Review. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Zustand: COME NUOVO. Strade Blu. SIGNED hardcover - Early printing. The story of one man's experiences after Hurricane Katrina. Abdulrahman Zeitoun, a successful Syrian-born painting contractor, decides to stay in New Orleans and protect his property while his wife (born in Louisiana and a convert to Islam) and children leave for safety. After the levees break, he uses a small canoe to assist other stranded residents, before being arrested at one of his rental properties along with three other men by an armed squad. They were swept into a vortex of bureaucratic brutality and imprisoned as suspected terrorists; for a long time all his family knew was that he had "disappeared." Highly praised at the time of its publication, this received the American Book Award. A few years later, his wife filed for divorce and he was arrested and indicted not only for extremely violent abuse but for allegedly conspiring to have his ex-wife murdered. He was acquitted of the murder-related charges which came from a "non-credible" source, but convicted of abuse, and for some this cast doubt on the entire story - although itis undeniable that the government's response to Katrina was not only inadequate but focused more on protecting property than on saving lives. At the end of the book, Eggers portrays them as broken but hopeful - unfortunately, they were not only broken but destroyed. SIGNED on the title page. 347 pp plus ads. Fine in illustrated boards. Band wrapped around back cover.

Zustand: Wie neu. 1. Auflage. Sprache: Deutsch Gewicht in Gramm: 650 8°, gebundene Ausgabe, Hardcover/Pappeinband.
