Buch Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Near Fine. 1st Edition. First edition, first impression. Octavo, pp 137. Bound in black cloth covered hard boards, gilt to spine, and in the original dust jacket, un-clipped ($3.95). Bob Dylan's first book, written in 1966 but not published until 1971. Fine condition book in a Near Fine jacket.
Staplebound Pamphlet. Zustand: Very Good. Early Pirated Edition. Tri-stapled mimeographed pamphlet. 11 in x 8.5 in., pp. 54. A pirated edition. Paper cover with black title and tarantula drawing. Light age-toning to pages. Small creases to front bottom left corner of first three leaves. Two quarter-inch tears, and a quarter-inch open tear in top corner, on right side of back page. Previous owner's name and address to top of front cover. Printed on cover: "Author's royalties from the sale of this book are being donated to the Caladan Free School. Publisher's profits will contribute to furtherance of Woodstock Nation." The reference to Woodstock Nation indicates the publication date is 1970. Previous owner was noted author and historian Bruce Levine (Mendocino, CA).
Couverture souple. Zustand: Assez bon.

First edition of Dylan's first book. Octavo, original cloth. Signed by Bob Dylan on the half-title page. Fine in a near fine dust jacket with some light wear to the extremities. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box.ÂRare and desirable signed by Dylan. Written in 1966, Tarantula is a collection of poems and prose that evokes the turbulence of the times in which it was written, and gives a unique insight into Dylan's creative evolution. It captures Bob Dylan's preoccupations at a crucial juncture in his artistic development, showcasing the imagination of a folk poet laureate who was able to combine the humanity and compassion of his country roots with the playful surrealism of modern art. Angry, funny, and strange, the poems and prose in this collection reflect the concerns found in Dylan's most seminal music: a sense of protest, a verbal playfulness and spontaneity, and a belief in the artistic legitimacy of chronicling everyday life and eccentricity on the street.

Price of $3.95 on the front flap of the dust jacket. Dylan's first book, a work of poetry organized in a prose format. A nice copy of the first trade edition.
