[slight bumping to lower corners, no other significant wear; the jacket shows light surface wear, slight scuffing along the lower front hinge, one tiny closed tear at bottom edge of front panel, small nick and a bit of wrinkling at top of front flap]. (figures, tables) INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author on the front endpaper: "January 1987 / To my #1 / Real Estate Friend! / Richard." "For the first time," claims the jacket blurb, "the development of homosexual and heterosexual behavior is traced from childhood to adulthood. [The author] describes his fifteen-year study of two groups of young boys and their parents. The heart of the book is the tape-recorded interviews with the boys and their parents, beginning in the boys' childhood and spanning the years to adulthood." The author had been on this research beat since the early 1960s, and is considered a pioneer in the study of gender dysphoria in children; the term "gender identity disorder" itself, introduced in DSM-III (1980) was taken from Green's 1974 book "Sexual Identity Conflict in Children and Adults." As a member of the American Psychiatric Association, he was a forceful advocate for that organization's declassification of homosexuality as a mental illness. In 2006 he received the Magnus Hirschfeld Medal, awarded for outstanding service to sexual science. ****NOTE that additional postage charges will be assessed for international shipping of this moderately heavy volume; if this concerns you, please contact us for a shipping quote before placing your order.**** Signed by Author.
