Buch Erstausgabe
First edition, 2 volumes, 8vo, xii, 397; vii, 390 pp., 2 pages ads at end of each volume dated March 1869, 2 frontispieces, 6 full-page engraved plates, 5 illustrations in text, large folding map, original green blind-stamped cloth gilt, old bookseller's label to upper covers, neat repairs to inner hinges, scattered light foxing (beginning and end of both vols and pages 92-98 vol. II where a couple of newspaper clippings have been inserted on blank paper) a very good set. Scarce. A versatile and hardy traveller, Tozer (1829-1916) made regular journeys in Greece and Turkey, which formed the subject of this, his major travel book in which he describes two arduous journeys from Constantinople to Salonika (taking in Mount Athos, which he climbed) across the Scardus and Bertiscus ranges, then further north into Montenegro and across the Mirdita country of central Albania. Blackmer 1669; not in Atabey.
