First editionsÂof Paul Austerâ s detective novels, each signed by him on the title page. Octavo, original cloth.ÂCity of GlassÂin first-state dust jacket, with no publisherâ s device at spine foot. Each are signed by Paul Auster on the title page. Each are fine in a fine dust jackets. An exceptional set. â Paul Austerâ s groundbreaking New York Trilogy could give meta-fiction good nameâ ¦ Theyâ re wickedly clever brain-ticklersâ (Los Angeles Herald-Examiner). This critically praised series of three novels turn â the detective genre into something tonier: the gumshoes in their chilly pages keep meeting doppelgangers and spitting out references to Don Quixote and Hawthorne and Thoreau. And the more they stalk their eccentric quarry, the more they seem actually to be stalking the Big Questionsâ "the implications of authorship, the enigmas of epistemology, the veils and masks of languageâ (New York Times).

Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Near Fine. 1st Edition. A 3 Vols Set : The New York Trilogy : 'City Of Glass', 'Ghosts' & 'The Locked Room'. All three books are the First USA printings published by Sun and Moon Press, Los Angeles in 1985 and 1986. All have the full number line and state 'First Edition'. The BOOKS are all in near Fine condition. Light pushing at the spine ends to Vol.1. All are free from inscriptions. The WRAPPERS are complete and are in near Fine condition The wrapper of 'City of Glass' is in the second state; the spine is slightly toned and there is a barely visible outline where the small sticker bearing the publisher's imprint was plainly tipped to the spine. This sticker is now loosely inserted. There is no difference between the first and second state wrappers apart from when the publishers realised they had omitted the publishers imprint on the printed wrapper, they produced some small paper imprints to be tipped on to the spine of the wrapper. Most of these have inevitably fallen off over the passage of time but this one is loosely inserted. With this set is also included the third state wrapper where the publisher's imprint has been incorporated into the printed wrapper and additional logo designs have been added to the flaps. The wrappers are protected in removable Brodart archival covers. All three volumes have been signed (without dedication) by the author to the title page. Paul Auster's classic meta-fictional detective story with his signature theme of the search for identity and his brand of American existentialism. A sharp set of the author's classic work.
