The works focus on the lives of the Fairchild children who, in part one, come to realise their human depravity and the subsequent need for redemption. In parts two and three, the works place emphasis on the themes of etiquette,virtuous consumerism and parent's responsibility to educate their children. Other themes addressed in the works are Victorianism and Evangelism. Volume one is a fourth edition published in 1848, and volume two is the seventeenth edition published in the same year. Volume three was published in 1854 and is a third edition. With a publisher's advertisements to the rear all volumes and an additional cataloguye to the rear of volume III. Collated: Complete with a frontispiece to each volume. In a cloth binding. Externally, generally sound with heavy rubbing and bumping to all volumes. Fading to the spines and occasional dampstaining to boards. Front hinges tender to all volumes but reasonably firm to the rear. Closed tear to spine on volume one. Loss to the head and tail of the spine of all volumes. Personal gift message to front free end-papers of all three volumes. Internally, firmly bound. Scattered spotting throughout and age toning to edges of the pages. Good. book.
