Giving a detailed impression of the land, people and culture. Gertrude Lowthian Bell was an English writer, political officer and archeologist best known for her travels in the Middle East. She was highly praised for her role in British imperial policy-making as an Arabist, and was a close friend of the famous British archeologist and army officer, T. E. Lawrence. The half title page is present, alongside one page of the publisher's advertisements to the front of the book. With the ink signature of Leonard W. King to the front paste-down. Leonard William King was an English archeologist and Assyriologist, known for his translations of ancient works such as the Code of Hammurabi. He was also a professor at Kings College, Cambridge. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart with some shelf wear to the edges. Fraying to the upper spine. Spine is darkened. Marks to the boards. Ink signature of Leonard King to the front paste-down. Front hinge is weak but still attached. Could become loose upon further handling. Scattered spots to the paste-downs and free endpapers. Internally, binding slightly strained but still very firm. Age-toning and spotting throughout. Creasing to the frontispiece tissue guard. Small closed tear to the upper edge of page 104.
