Detailed letter, filling two whole folio pages, beginning: 'Sir. | In the absence of the Storekeeper General I have the honour to refer you to his letters of the 12th. Novr. 19th. & 31st. Decr. last enclosing to you Bills of Lading of Stores shipped by this Department on board the Plantagenet, Regent and Ann Transports consigned to you by order of the Lords Commissioners of His Majesty's Treasury in part of the supply of British Produce and Manufactures for the use of the Portuguese Government. - And I have now to enclose for your information a Bill of Lading with Invoice annexed [neither present] of a further supply for this Service'. A list of items and quantities follows; with flints, hygrometers, hydrometers and Reaumur thermometers 'For the Royal Arsenal of the Army'; '210 Pigs of Lead' 'For Barracks & Fortifications', and sheeting, writing paper, wrapping paper, packthread and 'Packages of Medicines' 'For Military Hospital'. The items are to be 'Shipped on board the Commerce Transport, Thomas Lowther master.' Signed 'J. Barker | Depy Storekeeper Genl.', with postscript signed 'J. Barker | Depy S. Genl.'.

See his entry in the Oxford DNB, with that of the recipient Lady [Maria] Theresa Lewis (1803-1865), who lived in Kent House in Knightsbridge with her second husband Sir George Cornewall Lewis (1806-1863), Bart, Liberal Chancellor of the Exchequer, her first husband having been the novelist Thomas Henry Lister (1800-1842). The three items are in good condition, lightly aged. Written in a difficult hand. ONE (13 June 1850, Rolls House ): AL in the third person. 1p, 12mo. Sir F. Palgrave presents his compts , and informs her that something has been found in a certain book, and that a copy shall be made for her as soon as possible . TWO (14 May 1851): ALS. 2pp, 12mo. Copies are being made of the three patents she enquired after. With regard to the Arbitration we have not been so successful, as you will see by Mr. D[?] s note enclosed. Signed Francis Palgrave . THREE (5 February 1852): ALS. 1p, 12mo. Signed F. Palgrave and addressed to My dear Lady Theresa. Begins by explains that he is transmitting an order made by the Master of the Rolls for facilitating literary enquiries. The rest of the letter is somewhat opaque. See Image.

8vo, 2 pp. Text clear and complete. Good, on lightly-aged paper. He is 'sorry' that Harlech has 'left the Colonial Office, upon which you have produced such a profound and salutary effect'. From the point of view of the I.L.O. Harlech's departure is 'particularly regretted, as your new labour policy touched our work at many points and gave our native labour people great encouragement.' He is sending a copy of his 'last report for the I.L.O.' He hopes 'that Nuffield can be made to serve colonial purposes effectively', and would like to 'talk this over' with Harlech, 'when I am in England'.

He continues with reference to the Book & parchments of the Courts of Wards and Equity (the Council) . He gives advice for her investigations, with reference to Dugdale, writing in an almost-impenetrable style.
