Hervorzuheben sind dabei die für die Serie Picturesque Views in England and Wales entstandenen Aquarelle, die als die schönsten Darstellungen englischer Landschaften überhaupt gelten. Einen Gipfel visionärer Gestaltungskraft bilden die Schweizer Motive aus den 1840er Jahren, in denen Turner die erhabene Alpenszenerie in Bildern von beispielloser Luminosität und visionärem Impuls eingefangen hat.
