Auction map for the sale of the historic A. E. Robinson estate, located in current day Ossining (then Sing Sing) between State Street in the east, the Hudson River in the west, Orchard Street in the south, and Main Street in the north. World Cat locates no copy of this map; not recorded in the Library of Congress or the David Rumsey Map Collection. The mansion, known as the Smith Robinson House, still exists today at 34 State Street in Ossining. The mansion was built in the 1840s by local business man James Smith, and was later purchased by James Robinson another Sing Sing wealthy landowner. The map shows Lot No. 1 with a lovely little illustration of the mansion's facade labeled "Mansion of White Marble, 50 x 50 ft", on 2 1/2 acres, with lot No. 2 on 1 3/4 acres boasting a gardener's house, coach house (both illustrated), poultry house, stable yard and a lovely wooded area behind, "Shady Grove". There are 14 numbered lots in all, with Hunter Street running behind lots 1 & 2, and "Land of the Late James Smith" shown south of lot 12. Going west toward the Hudson, are lots 12 to 14, with lots 13 &14 adjacent to the Hudson River RR site to the west and the Purdy lot to the north. The Robinson mansion was clad in marble quarried from Sing Sing prison, and boasted 24 rooms, with an attic and an observatory. The parlors on the north side of the house were 50 feet long, with sliding mahogany doors, and the main hall was 12 to 15 feet wide presumably to accommodate the wide hoop skirts of the well to do ladies of the day. The subtitle of the map continues: "The splendid marble mansion with Coach House, Gardener's House & c. & c. & c. and from 2 1/2 to 5 acres of land attached. Also several building lots of various sizes, from 1/4 to 1 acre each, all commanding fine views of the Hudson River and surrounding country, and within 5 minutes walk of the Steam Boat Landing & Rail Road Depot. Also a fine dock, Brick Store, Store House & Coal & Lumber Yard & c." 19 1/2 x 16". Trimmed close at the left edge, laid down on heavier stock, period folds flattened, minor cracks at a few folds.
