In this first edition of the Liverpool School of Painters Henry Currie Marillier provides an interesting introduction to the origin and history of the Liverpool Academy before offering biographical sketches of over fifty of the the school's key painters between 1810 and 1867. Includes chapters on Charles Barber and John Gibson, with twenty five plates, collated and complete. Prior owner's pencil inscription to the title page, 'Herbert Reynolds Holton' In the publisher's original green cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Lightly rubbed to the boards, joints and the spine. A little bumped to the extremities, and to the head and tail of the spine, with a small closed tear to the head. The cloth at the spine is a little discoloured. Internally, generally firmly bound, with a little strain at points such as pages 112 to 113 where the gutter is visible. Pages are bright with light scattered foxing throughout. Very Good. book.
